The Research Advisory Committee (RAC) coordinates the research activity of the National Speleological Society, chooses the winner of the annual Ralph W. Stone Graduate Fellowship, designates official NSS Projects and Study Groups, provides advice to members concerning scientific efforts, answers speleological inquiries from others, and reviews proposals for research in Society owned caves. The RAC administers three grants: Research Grants, the Ralph Stone Award, and the Young Investigator Award.
The RAC also approves NSS Projects of a scientific nature.
