The Fine Arts Salon presents the Speleoart competition/exhibition to be held in
Rio Rancho, NM
The Fine Arts Salon is the official venue for exhibiting speleologically inspired artwork. Artwork can be in any medium, from painting and sketching to digitally altered photography, computer graphics, pottery and sculpture, textiles, and mixed media. This year, the subject must involve Geology, focusing on the central interest of speleology. There will be SpeleoArt workshops and events held in conjunction with the exhibition.
Competing entries for the Fine Arts Salon must involve the annual theme set for the year.
ENTRIES - All entry forms must be submitted before Convention. Do not send original artwork with entry form, please! Email entry forms to Carolina Shrewsbury email@example.com no later than MAY 30, 2017.Ready to hang/displayed Artwork must be shipped to Convention address given on acceptance only before Convention, or to arrive in the Salon by 5pm Saturday JUNE 17th, 2017. Please submit good, professional looking digital images of each artwork entered for Salon. Each digital image must be accompanied by: Name of artist, Dimensions of the piece, art salon to be judged in (if judging is desired), and Medium. All exhibits are encouraged to be sold at Salon or entered for NSS Auction. The NSS will deduct a 20% commission from all art sold. Previously awarded work is encouraged to be exhibited if not seen >5 years, but will not be judged in the Salon. Applications will be screened and artists will be notified by mail or E-mail. notification.

CATEGORIES - Art will be judged in 2 categories:
THEMED- 2017- Geology
OPEN- Any speleological subject
There are 2 Merit award pins and 4 honorable mention pins.
Winners will be selected in each category and a Best of Show overall. Judging will occur at the Convention. Judging for the Best of Show SpeleoArt Award will be by caver ballot.
ENTRY FORMS - Please click logo for adult and child entry forms. They may be submitted online, or printed and mailed. Paper copies may be obtained from Carolina Shrewsbury at the address below. Craft and Design entries can also be submitted on the same form. Same fees and rules apply.
ENTRY FEE - Entry fees are per person:
$15 for adults, there will be a reduction for those who can assist with Salon week (See Chairman of Salon).
$5 for youth (12 and under). Make checks for entry fees payable to the NSS FAS.
The number of entries is limited to 4 per person for competition; an optional additional 4 can be entered for show only for an additional $10 fee, they do not have to be themed entries. This non-theme entry is a provision for artwork to be displayed but not judged if the artist so wishes.
RIGHTS AND CONDITIONS:
All entrants retain copyright and all moral and intellectual rights to their work. Credit will be included with all objects displayed. The NSS requests the following rights, which are optional. Indicate your agreement by marking the box(es) on the entry form.
The NSS may project these images during the award ceremony.
The NSS may publish images of winning objects in periodicals for the purpose of showcasing contest winners, within one year of the contest.
The NSS may use low-resolution images of these works on Web sites to announce the winners of this competition, for not more than one year.
The NSS may use images of these works in low resolution in a CD/DVD of all entries for an indefinite period. This CD/DVD will be lent to NSS members for viewing at no charge.
JUDGING - Pre-selection for exhibition will occur prior to Convention. Judging will occur Monday 9am with 2 professional artists and one caver of high standing within the NSS. SpeleoArt Award will be by ballot which starts at the opening reception on Monday afternoon until Thursday 12 noon.
