Escabrosa held their monthly meeting under the ramada in front of the entrance
of Colossal Cave. We just missed the roll call of the members so we didn't hear
who all attended or how many grotto's were represented. I saw some familiar faces.
They talked about the ARA for a while and they talked about obtaining Raycrete
for upcoming restoration projects, among other things.
The meeting adjourned and we prepared to go caving.
We were left with these simple instructions:
1)Watch out for wires, they were live and carrying 220 volts.
2)We could go off the main paths if we avoided the areas that seemed to be
brushed over with a broom to cover tracks.
3)You will have to go yourself to find out number three.
4) When the cave tour lights turn on, it is time to head out.
They turned off all the lights for us.
We were led into the main cave entrance and pointed toward the direction of the ladders
and were told that some of us can go this way and others can go that way
and to have fun.
We were let loose in Colossal Cave! That was so cool!
Doug, Danny and I seemed to very quickly get separated from the rest of the crowd.
From then on, we were all alone other than once in a while we would pass other cavers.
We explored, took pictures and looked in places not accessable to the people on the
public tours. It was so much fun!
The lights turned on.
We were pointed toward the way out.
I would like to thank Escabrosa grotto and Colossal Caves Park for making this possible.
Escabrosa will head a Colossal Cave cleanup project later this year.
