Caves Open for NRO

All of the NCC caves will be open . Hopefully we will have organized trips visiting all of them. Merlin's cave is the only one required a certified trip leader; at least one trip is already planned.

The NSS owns 3 Preserves in NY. These will all be open and offer caving from beginner horizontal to advanced vertical. McFail's Cave requires trip leaders and we are planning on leading several trips of different length and difficulty.
McFail's Cave Nature Preserve
James Gage Karst Nature Preserve
Schoharie Caverns Nature Preserve

There will be some limited access trips to several caves on private properties.

Northeastern Cave Conservancy (NCC) Auction

Please plan on attending the NCC auction, with proceeds going to the goals and projects of the NCC. Please donate items to the auction, preferably items of interest to most cavers, and of value, either new or used. Check out the NCC at

Saturday Evening Presentation

The Saturday night program will be a presentation by Stephen Berge and Julian Benson on Marshall's Dig in Sharon Springs, NY.

Originally discovered by Tony Hopkins, Marshall's dig has been worked on for 4 years now. The project was taken up by Julian Benson and Stephen Berge of the Rockeaters 2.0. Though many others have helped over the years.

From the beginning two separate holes have been pushed. Both within a hundred feet of each other. One being a small fissure insurgence that drains a good portion of Cedar Swamp's water into it all year round. The second, a sinkhole about hundred feet away. This sinkhole is mostly dry other then in the spring when it takes an enormous amount of water from the fissure that backs up and overflows. The sink hole endlessly drains and never backs up!

Come join us for a talk about the geology of the unknown area Sharon Springs where these holes are located! New developments, old friends, a colorful history of our dig and the land it resides on, and the ever drawing mystery of this beautiful plateau! And just maybe you’ll even be enticed to come and lend a hand!
