DC Grotto Training Opportunities

Last Updated: 26 May 2004

The following are some of the training opportunities open to DC Grotto members.

The DC Grotto sponsors after-work vertical caving practice at Carderock during the summer months. There is no specific agenda - people practice the skills in which they're most interested. Bring your own vertical equipment, if you have it, or borrow the DC Grotto's equipment if you don't have any. This is also a good opportunity to try out the rigs preferred by other members.
Bob Zimmerman hosts vertical practice from a tree in his back yard.
On-the-job training in cave surveying is provided during Breathing Cave and Grand Caverns survey trips. Experience in caving is a prerequisite - if you've never been caving, see below.
DC Grotto sponsors novice caving trip at irregular intervals for those with little or no caving experience. Many are not scheduled in advance and do not appear on the calendar. For the most up-to-date information, you should come to the meetings.
