"I love the grotto...having a ready made group of fun people to do cool things really made me feel more at home since moving here than anything." - Ed Shakelford

Hubbel's Post Office Cave

This was a grotto survey project conducted and completed in two day-long trips in September '03 and February '04. Hubbel's Post Office Cave is a multi-level stream passage cave about 1,355' long. It exhibits evidence of historical use in the form of cane torch stoke marks. Carbon dating of a sample gave a date of 1400 AD. More information on this cave and our survey trips can be found in an excellent article by Brian Roebuck in the February 5, 2005 issue of The Southport Digs newsletter.
