southport chronic cavers grotto
"Every year gets better as I see it with the grotto, 10 years old, still growing, many important projects accomplished, caves owned and managed, awards won, caves mapped, and much more. The whole key is our members, some of the best cavers I know!" - Buddy Baldwin

Hubbel's Post Office Cave

This was a grotto survey project conducted and completed in two day-long trips in September '03 and February '04. Hubbel's Post Office Cave is a multi-level stream passage cave about 1,355' long. It exhibits evidence of historical use in the form of cane torch stoke marks. Carbon dating of a sample gave a date of 1400 AD. More information on this cave and our survey trips can be found in an excellent article by Brian Roebuck in the February 5, 2005 issue of The Southport Digs newsletter.
