From Dale Green on utcavers:

The Pilot Range is where Crystal Cave is located, a cave we just gated
to protect Townsend's Bats. Several years ago I led a trip to Hogans
Alley Cave in the Pilots and we stopped by a mine on the way to look
at a cave. Dave Shurtz climbed into it. Wasn't much. While I was
looking around the entrance area I stepped on some long round objects
that looked like big dog turds. Turned out it was old dynamite. I
guess the nitroglycerin had all evaporated and just left the sawdust
behind. Words to the wise.
