I know I should be the one to know this (living in Logan) but has anyone been up to the Tony Grove area lately? I know the weather station says there is alot of snow but can you get to the parking lot yet? I plan on going this weekend to check it out, just trying to get a heads up.....

It is highly unlikely that the road will open before the 1st of June in nornal snow years. Even if the road is totally free of snow they often wait until the roadbed underneath the asphalt dries out before allowing car/truck traffic to prevent damage to the surface. They used to wait until the 4th of July to open up, but I think the road has been improved enough to open earlier. A phone call to the Forest Service in Logan should give a more definitive answer.

If you can see much snow on Naomi, don't plan on the road being open. Dale's estimate of June sounds about right--I think the earliest they really plan on is Memorial Day weekend--and there is often still heavy runoff on some of the trails even after they have opened the road up.

This time of year it probably hasn't melted off much above right fork. I remember hiking to the snowline up there well after spring semester ended.

This is Gareth C. I just went up to Tony Grove on Tuesday June 19? and the parking lot is clear of snow as is the majority of the area visible from the parking lot. There is a lot of construction still, but the only snow visible from the parking lots is fairly high or on the shady slopes of the mountain. I will be up there camping from the 26th to the 28th and will let you know how it is now. I am still looking for GPS info on the Tony Grove caves, especially some of the large sinks without caves in them. I had an old map of the area from when I was active in the BRG but have since lost my map.
