A topic we may want to discuss at the Tri-Grotto meeting is related to the upcoming NSS Convention in Bellingham Washington. Lots of cavers may be passing through Utah from eastern states. When this has happened before Utah cavers have volunteered to lead pre- and post-convention trips for them. Do we want to do it this time?

Apparently we are a bit slow on this. Following through on a post on the e-Groups utcavers forum I see that there are already posted several pre and post-convention trips for Washington, Idaho, and Wyoming. Visit the site at: http://www.nss2006.org/caves.htm It shouldn't be too hard to organize something for Neffs, Big Brush, and maybe Candlelight. Maybe Tony Grove?

  1. Rocky Mountain Regional

    1. A functional constitution and set of by-laws need to be established for the region.
    2. Richard Downey is the treasurer for the region and now has the money.
    3. Resolved unanimously. Utah is unwilling to host the regional given that we did it last year. No grotto in Wyoming is currently able to do it. Therefore, the regional will be hosted by Colorado either in Wyoming or Colorado or there will be no regional. Brandon Kowallis, RMR Chairman, will notify Colorado.

  2. Utah Grottos Party

    1. To be held at Kane Hollow
    2. The idea of having an organized spaghetti dinner was discussed but ultimately rejected. Avoiding things that involve cost, like an organized dinner, prevents the need to handle money and sign up in advance.
    3. September 15-17th.
    4. Dave Herron was suggested as a candidate to publish the guidebook. I have e-mailed him regarding this.

  3. Management of the Tri-Grotto Meeting

    1. Timpanogos Grotto will host the next meeting.
    2. September 28th at 7:00 p.m. at the usual place.

  4. Management of the SITLA Caves

    1. The new management system appears to be working well. No problems in the immediate future are foreseen.

  5. Utah Caver

    1. Annual publication will continue following the manner of the 2005 edition.

  6. Candlelight Management Plan

    1. Pursuant to his assignment at the previous meeting, Dale proposed extensive changes. He will type them up and e-mail them to the grotto officers for review at the next tri-grotto meeting.

  7. Pre/Post Convention Trips

    1. We will offer a pre-convention trip to Neffs cave. Duane McCully will arrange for a leader.

  8. Proposal for cave register funding

    1. Dale Green is willing to fund all expenditures for actual register materials.
    2. Gas and travel expenses will not be reimbursed.

  9. Utah Grottos T-Shirt

    1. Submit designs to Rob Cranney and Brandon Kowallis.
    2. Designs will be due by August 15th.
    3. Richard Downey will estimate costs for printing submitted designs.

One of the criteria for the design of the Utah Grottos T-shirt contest is that it should include something about all Utah grottos, past and present. Here is a list:

Salt Lake Grotto, Salt Lake City, Utah - 1952 to present
Utah's Dixie Grotto, St. George, Utah - 1953-1954
Timpanogos Grotto, Provo, Utah - 1974 to present
Wasatch Grotto, Ogden, Utah - 1984 to present
Color Country Grotto, Cedar City, Utah - 1998 to present
Bear River Grotto, Logan, Utah - 2000 to present

The Color Country and Bear River Grottos are in limbo.
