National Cave Protection Act

Most of the caves in Utah are protected by the National Cave Protection Act of 1988.

Go to the link below in green in order to access this ground breaking Federal legislation completed in 1988.  This law gives some reasonable protections and allows for prosecution of those damaging, defacing or endangering our natural cave resources in the United States of America.

It is unlawful to dig in a cave without a permit, to touch or break anything in a cave, to remove anything from a cave without a permit, or to damage in any way a gate, sign or safety device in any cave in Utah. It is also unlawful to damage the biological environment in any cave. Please do your caving within the law.
