Young Timers Reunion 2008

Young Timers Reunion, or YTR, is a caving event inspired by OTR, but geared more towards the college-aged crowd. YTR is a great excuse to meet some like-minded young people, have a great time, and perhaps even do a bit of caving in the heart of West Virginia! YTR 2008 is a very informal event versus years past, and the WVU Student Grotto welcomes any contributions towards organization, supplies, or leading cave trips.

This year, YTR will be held from Friday - Sunday, April 18 - 20, 2008. Registration is $5 for college students (please bring ID) and $10 for non-students. Registration opens at 3PM on Friday, and the campsite should be cleared by Sunday afternoon.

Location

YTR 2008 will be held at Bubble Cave, in Renick, WV - Greenbrier County, home to some of West Virginia's best caving. This will be primitave camping, no electricity or running water. The town of Lewisburg is half an hour away, so supplies are only a short drive away. YTR 2008 is BYOB, and no food will be provided. Firewood will be provided on-site, and we ask that you do not bring outside firewood.

Directions

Click for location of YTR 2008 campsite.

  • From I-64, drive north on 219 to the town of Falling Springs (aka Renick).
  • Make a right onto Brownstone Road, which is the first major road after Auto Road. Drive a few miles down Brownstone.
  • YTR site is on the left, shortly after a decorative lighthouse also on the left. Look for an orange gate marked with a 'YTR' sign.

Caving Trips

There will be no official led trips, and you are required to bring your own helmets, lights, and equipment! For those that aren't familiar with caves in the area, the WVUSG will have limited slots available on our own personal caving trips - talk to us at the event.

WVUSG will provide a manned sign-in / sign-out station at the campsite. We ask that all caving trips register when leaving and returning so that we can ensure a safe event!

Please make note of the VAR Closed Cave List. Also, as a precaution against WNS, all YTR attendees should follow the decontamination guidelines as outlined by the USF&WS before caving in WV.

Contact

If you have questions or comments about YTR 2008, please contact one of the WVUSG officers.
