Below is the message you will receive when you join the NSS West Discussion Group on Yahoo. This text outlines guidelines for using the list. Use them in good health.
The NSSwest discussion group is designed to facilitate communications
between our member-grottos and caver representatives. We encourage
discussions related to the mission and spirit of the Western Region
of the National Speleological Society. Any discussions posted to
this group must be current and relevant.

NSSwest Usage Guidelines:
The following guidelines have been established to allow for effective
exchange of information in a responsible way by all group members.
These guidelines will be strictly enforced by the moderator in order
to keep this group an effective open forum. Messages which do not meet
these guidelines may be rejected. Repeated violations can lead to
temporary or permanent removal from this group regardless of your
membership status in the Western Region or the NSS.
1. All correspondence must relate specifically to the mission and
spirit of the Western Region of the National Speleological Society.
2. All messages must clearly indicate the name and address of the sender.
3. Messages which could harm the Western Region or hinder achievement
of its goals will be rejected.
4. Any confrontational comments showing a lack of respect will not be
tolerated. Unacceptable comments include foul or inflammatory language,
innuendoe, rumors, personal attacks, and provocation.
5. Overuse of the privilege, flooding of email messages, forwarding of
bulk email or large attachments, or any other form of spamming are
unacceptable and grounds for immediate removal from the list.
6. Marketing of products or services is not allowed unless prior
approval has been granted by the region's executive board.
7. Deliberate acts associated with denying, interfering with or
disrupting service of anyone's e-mail service or that of any
other organization or agency are unacceptable.
8. The executive board reserves the right to deny or revoke group
membership to individuals that are not members in good standing
with the Western Region of the National Speleological Society.
9. Any unlawful activity is forbidden.
This group may, at any time, operate as completely open or completely
moderated. While open, any group member may post any message to the
list by sending it to NSSwest@YahooGroups.com. While moderated, any
group member may post any message, but it will not be sent to the
list until approved by a group moderator.
Messages which violate any of the above guidelines may be rejected,
and the sender contacted and asked to adhere to the policy; an appeal
is allowed. If a user persists in violating the policy, they will be
removed from the group.
The NSSwest discussion group exists at will of the executive
board of the Western Region of the NSS. Management and moderation
of the group will be directed by the board. Participation in this
group is not a right of membership. As a supplemental benefit to
membership, moderation and management of this service is not
subject to the constitution and bylaws of the Western Region
of the NSS.
This policy may be updated from time to time without prior notice.
Each updated version will be posted to the group files section, and
messages subsequent to the version change will be subject to the

------ Appeals Procedure ------
When a message is rejected by the moderator(s) due to violation
of the rules above, the following occur:
1. Moderator notifies the user of the unacceptable message, and
lists the rule(s) violated. A copy of this notification and the
offending message are also sent to the Western Region's executive
board and the recognized liaison(s) of the user's grotto(s).
2. If the user disagrees, they are allowed to appeal the rejection.
The appeal petition should be sent to the moderator, who will
forward it to the executive board and the respective grotto
3. The board will then render a decision regarding the suitability
of the message. The decision shall be final. Notification will be
sent to the moderator, user and grotto liaison, and the board may
optionally give a detailed explanation. If the board judges it
acceptable, the message will be posted to the list.
4. Repeated appeals by the same user may be grounds for permanent
removal from the group.
