February 7 Binkley Cave Trip Report & Upcoming Dates

Greetings, cavers!

Recent Trip Report
On February 7, there were three different trips. Joe Kinder and four other cavers went on what turned out to be a great photography trip to the McLain River and upstream terminus. Shane Myles, Tim Pride, and Pat Burns went and worked on Soda Straw Alley. Ty Spatta and Dave Everton did passage improvement in Miller Cave. Only a portion of the trip report is currently completed, but I will ADD to and update the report when I get the submissions. Here is a link: http://files.hoosiercavers.com/Binkley/Binkley2-7-15.pdf

Important Trip Planning News: If you wish to get the ‘internal’ e-messages, by which ISS members communicate with each other about trip planning, date availability, trip details, and all sorts of other stuff, you will need to be on the Indiana Speleological Survey Yahoo group. If you ALREADY get messages from the indiana-speleo-survey@yahoogroups.com e-mail account, then you are ON that list. That means you can also post to that list, by including the e-mail address indiana-speleo-survey@yahoogroups.com as a recipient of the message. If you do not get messages from that list, or are unsure if you are on it, but want to get those kind of trip planning messages, please contact me directly and I will help you get added.

Upcoming Trips:
* There is a trip planned this SUNDAY February 15 to the Maze area to continue moving the scaling pole toward the next destination. A traverse line is to be set up at the top of Surprise Dome to make it a little bit safer at that spot. Rand Heazlitt is coordinating the trip, which is expected to last 5 to 8 hours. Please contact him directly if you wish to help.

* There is also another Maze trip planned for February 28. Contact Rand for more information; perhaps after this Sunday’s trip, more will be known about the objectives.

* Lastly for now, discussions are starting for another McLain River trip in April, which could include a cave radio location of the upstream terminal room, and side passage surveying. This would be a long, difficult, marathon type of trip.
