Recent Binkley Cave Trip Reports & Upcoming Dates

Greetings, cavers!

Recent Trip Reports

· On June 6, eight cavers entered the Geary entrance to Binkley Cave (near Fairground Spring) to visit a part of the cave which has gone unworked for over 35 years. The survey total of around 900 feet for the day was enough for the cave to reach the 42-mile mark. Here is a link to the trip report: http://files.hoosiercavers.com/Binkley/Binkley6-6-15.pdf

· June 14 saw Pat Burns spending six hours on passage improvement in Miller Cave, along with a few hours by Kevin Romanak and two other Caving Club IU members; here is a link to the report: http://files.hoosiercavers.com/Binkley/Binkley6-14-15.pdf

· June 17 had four cavers going to do yet more passage improvement in Miller; here is the link to that report, which may be amended further later: http://files.hoosiercavers.com/Binkley/Binkley6-17-15.pdf

Upcoming Trips/Dates: If anyone is planning a trip, please post it to the Yahoo group, and I will update the website calendar as well.

· This Sunday June 21, a group will be going to do yet more passage improvement in Miller. The big focus on this improvement project is the anticipation of a cave radio location trip on July 11 to the large rooms in the McLain River. A huge spring rainfall event had significant detrimental effects on parts of the cave, but thanks to those who’ve worked on it recently, I believe the passage will at the very least be restored to what it was before, and even improved more than ever in some sections.

· June 27: Rand suggested the date, but is looking for trip leaders, objectives, etc.

· July 11: tentatively planning to do a cave radio location trip to the McLain River, coordinated by Rand Heazlitt. There may be a much shorter and easier objective trip as well.

· July 25: Rand suggested the date, but is looking for trip leaders, objectives, etc.

· August 15: possible South Branch/Twin Falls area, suggested by Rand Heazlitt

· August 29: possible trip to Dome One in the Two Mile Hike area, suggested by Rand Heazlitt

Important Trip Planning News: If you wish to get the ‘internal’ e-messages, by which ISS members communicate with each other about trip planning, date availability, trip details, and all sorts of other stuff, you will need to be on the Indiana Speleological Survey Yahoo group. If you ALREADY get messages from the indiana-speleo-survey@yahoogroups.com e-mail account, then you are ON that list. That means you can also post to that list, by including the e-mail address indiana-speleo-survey@yahoogroups.com as a recipient of the message. If you do not get messages from that list, or are unsure if you are on it, but want to get those kind of trip planning messages, please contact me.
