Vertical Training Commission: Building the future of vertical cave training in the US.
Since becoming an NSS commission in 2021, the Vertical Training Commission (VTC) has made great strides in developing a structured vertical caving trainer program. This presentation will highlight key milestones to date, including publication of the Level 1 student handbook: Basic Vertical Techniques, the launch of official Level 1 courses, and continued risk management efforts. We’ll also discuss future plans, and how cavers can get involved as students, trainers, or supporters. Join us to learn how VTC is strengthening vertical caving education and building a safer, more connected community.
Annelisa (EC) Moe – Western Region Coordinator (NV, UT, AZ, CA)
EC started caving in 2015, and quickly began to mentor new cavers in knots and single rope technique (SRT) through the Southern California Grotto in 2016. With a master’s degree in geological sciences, project caving (mainly inventory and mapping) have been a big part of her caving career. She has contributed to expedition caving in Sequioia National Park and Klamath National Forest in California, as well as in Belize and the Phillippines. She currently lives in Los Angeles County, and many of her trips have been for recreational caving in the Western Region, with return trips to help guide new cavers. EC took NCRC Level 1 during the 2017 weeklong national seminar.
