Brian Pease, Sec/Treas

The C&E Section meeting got underway at 1PM following lunch.  John Lyles gave a shameless plug for the new book 12 Miles From Daylight by the Fort Stanton Cave Study Project.  I gave the 2016 Meeting and Section minutes plus the treasurers report, which were accepted.  The current balance is $1234.09.  We currently have 117 “active” members, with 112 NSS members and 50 Hams.  John DeRoo, Communications Chair, described the website situation.  It has been updated with meeting minutes and presentations from the previous convention in lieu of a new issue of Speleonics.  The website remains on the NSS server.

Sam Rowe, Section Chair, mentioned the passing of Ray Cole, who did so much for the Section over many years.  Sam also gave a brief history of the NSS Special Event Ham Station (K5C this year) and the special QSL cards that have been created and printed by volunteers at their own expense.  The cards cost about $0.65 each at Office Depot. Gene Harrison designed this year's card.  Sam asked for help in arranging the station for next year in Montana.  Gene also designed and purchased 2 banners with frames and containers for use at the Convention or other events.  Sam called for reimbursing Gene up to $200.00 for the banner expense, which was passed unanimously.

Sam agreed to run for Section Chair one more year.  Brian agreed to stay on as Sec/Treas and John Deroo as Communications Chair.  Norm Berg declined to continue as Publications Chair because there has been no new Speleonics published in a long time.  Sam suggested allowing the position to go unfilled, but Paul Jorgenson volunteered.  The slate was elected unanimously.

Paul gave a pitch for his website and specifically about obtaining a Radio Caver T-shirt or sticker through Cafepress.  He also asked about having a field day in Montana next year.  We agreed to look into it.

The meeting adjourned at 1:37PM.
