Indiana Cave Survey September 10, 2018 Meeting Minutes

President Trotter called the meeting to order at 7:52 PM. He thanked Chris and Joe for hosting and providing the main items for dinner.

Introductions were made and those in attendance included; Keith Dunlap (Treasurer), Ray Sheldon (Secretary), John Benton (Board Member), Bill Baus (Board Member), Dave Black, Joe Bowmer, Brian Cross, Lee Florea, and Damian Schmelz.

The June 2018 meeting minutes were approved as written.

Treasurer Report:

Dunlap reported $6,051.21 in the treasury. Membership stands at Sixty-five current members.

Archives Report:

County Director Reports:

Jennings County Director Trotter reported no activity.

Brown, Shelby, Franklin, Decatur County Director Cross reported no activity.

Bartholomew, Jackson, Jefferson, and Ripley County Director Sheldon reported no activity.

Lawrence and Monroe County Director Dick reported 8 forms processed on website.

Clark and Scott County Director Dunlap reported no activity.

Crawford, Floyd, and Harrison County Director Black reported activity processed by Dunlap.

Dunlap processed the following ICS Report Forms; Crawford – 2, Harrison – 2, Lawrence – 2, Decatur – 3, Martin – 3, Jennings – 2, Orange – 1, Jefferson – 1. The personnel who submitted the aforesaid forms were Marion Akers, Chris Bell, Josh Carpenter, Aaron French, Damion Schmelz and Dave Tibbets.

The following County Director reports were mentioned by Trotter from the floor:

Dubois, Martin, and Orange County Director Winner reported no activity.

Greene County Director Everton reported no activity.

Northern Indiana County Director Lewis reported no activity.

Clay, Morgan, Owen, Parke, Putnam, and Vanderburgh County Director Jarboe reported working aggressively in his counties .

Perry and Spencer County Director Smith reported no activity.

Washington County Director Bell reported no activity.

Membership Upgrades:

Chris motioned to upgrade Joe Bowmer to Regular membership and Benton seconded the motion. Discussion included three-years as an Associate member and the required ICS forms turned into Director Dick. Unanimous decision – welcome Joe to Regular membership. Scott Davis asked to be upgraded to Regular Membership. The Board voted to waive the two-year requirement one month short. Passed and approved by membership vote. Welcome Scott to Regular Membership.

Webmaster Report:

Chris presented changes and upgrades to the website and has developed a phone app which is very cool.

Private Site Webmaster / Database Custodian Report:

Dunlap continues to process forms for County Directors and works on the migration of the reference tables as time permits, although not much progress was made on the migration over the past three months.

ICS Notebook Report:

Notebook editor Ty Spatta continues to compile articles and is requesting members to submit maps and articles for future editions. Dunlap continues to assist with the delivery and is accepting $20.00 donations for the printing of color covers.

Old Business:

Florea is still working on the specifics for the ICS/IGS MOU. He mentioned the Wyandotte Map “Poster” based on Glen LeMasters latest map, is close to being published.

New Business:

Florea discussed future dye tracing projects, associated with a grant from the IU Center for Rural Engagement. These data will become part of a new layer in Indiana Map that will include all dye tracing data (old and new) with appropriate metadata. He mentioned a Spring Data Base which Sam Frushour is working on. The DNR and IGWS may sponsor a Cave Survey Workshop in the near future.

Dick discussed and displayed a Karst Density Map that Chuck Sutherland is working on. Dunlap is to provide cave/karst queries per quad map.

Next Meeting:

Bill will host the next meeting at 7:30PM on December 10th, 2018 at the Baus Haus in Bloomington. Bring something to eat and drink if you so desire.
