Meeting Minutes – December 10, 2018

Indiana Cave Survey December 10, 2018 Meeting MinutesPresident Bruce Trotter was out of town, so Vice-President Chris Dick called the meeting to order at 7:43 PM. He thanked Bill Baus for hosting and providing munchies.

Introductions were made and those in attendance included; Chris Dick (Vice- President), Keith Dunlap (Treasurer), Ray Sheldon (Secretary), John Benton (Board Member), Bill Baus (Board Member), Dave Black, Joe Bowmer, Brian Cross, Lee Florea, and Jerry Walker.

The September 2018 meeting minutes were approved as written.

Treasurer Report:

Dunlap reported $6,013.97 in the treasury.

Membership stands at Seventy current members with twenty-three needing to renew their dues for 2019.

Archivist Report: Dunlap maintains four file cabinets containing the paper files.

County Director Reports:

Brown, Shelby, Franklin, Decatur County Director Cross reported two forms by Aaron French in Decatur County.

Bartholomew, Jackson, Jefferson, and Ripley County Director Sheldon reported no activity.

Lawrence and Monroe County Director Dick reported 1 new cave in Monroe and 6 in Lawrence.

Clark and Scott County Director Dunlap reported no new activity.

Crawford, Floyd, and Harrison County Director Black reported 5 forms in Harrison and 4 in Crawford with this activity processed by Dunlap.

Dunlap processed the following ICS Report Forms; Crawford – 4, Harrison – 5, Lawrence – 6, Putnam – 3, Monroe – 1, Jennings – 1, Orange – 10, Clark – 6, Spencer – 1, Washington – 29.

Dunlap is working on entering 75 more Washington County forms completed in the Twin Creek area.

Webmaster Report:

Dick has been busy with other projects but plans to continue site development over the winter.

Private Site Webmaster / Database Custodian Report: Dunlap continues to process forms for County Directors and works on the migration of the reference tables as time permits. Hosting fees are coming due in 2019.

ICS Notebook Report: 

The Notebook was printed and delivered in December. Notebook editor Ty Spatta continues to compile articles and is requesting members to submit maps and articles for future editions. Dunlap continues to assist with the delivery and is accepting $20.00 donations for the printing of color covers. 

Old Business:

Florea is still working on the specifics for the ICS/IGS MOU. He mentioned the Wyandotte Map “Poster” based on Glenn Lemasters latest map is published with positive feedback. The map is available on the ICS Server and the IGS Website.

New Business:

Florea is working with Wyatt Williams on a DNR and IGWS Cave Survey Workshop tentatively scheduled for May 4th and 5th, 2019. The workshop will teach cave-surveying basics at McCormick Creek State Park. ICS participation is needed to assist with the instruction. Watch for further details in the near future,

Benton noted that long time caver Leroy Vanscoy has passed from this life. He was a ISG member in the 1960’s and helped with the Cave River Valley area.

2019 ICS Symposium discussion:

Baus will work on the Date and Location. Baus and Dick will work on the presenter line-up. Dick will continue to assist with the audio/visual needs. Dunlap will organize the food preparation.

Vice President – John Benton

Treasurer – Keith Dunlap

Secretary – Ray Sheldon

Board Members– Brian Cross and Bruce Trotter

Next Meeting:

Trotter will host the next meeting at 7:30PM on March 11th, 2019 at the Trotter place in Hartsville. Bring something to eat and drink if you so desire.
