Indiana Cave Survey March 11, 2019 Meeting Minutes

President Chris Dick called the meeting to order at 7:49 PM. He thanked Board Member Bruce Trotter for hosting. Julie’s help with the fixin’s  is always appreciated. The chili, pork and beans and other entrees made this truly an ICS Dinner Meeting.

No introductions were necessary and those in attendance included; Chris Dick (President), John Benton (Vice President), Keith Dunlap (Treasurer), Ray Sheldon (Secretary), Brian Cross (Board Member), Bruce Trotter (Board Member), Dave Black, Joe Bowmer and Glenn Lemasters.

The December 2018 meeting minutes were approved as written.

Treasurer Report:

Dunlap reported $5827.16 in the treasury. Membership stands at Sixty-six.

Archivist Report: Dunlap is archiving maps from Bill Tozer’s collection, a couple boxes from Horton Hobbs and items from Carroll Ritter.

County Director Reports:

Brown, Shelby, Franklin, Decatur County Director Cross reported on some shelter caves in Brown County State Park.

Bartholomew, Jackson, Jefferson, and Ripley County Director Sheldon reported some discussion with Aaron French about access to Crosley Fish and Wildlife Area. He also mentioned that Jerry Walker and he guided a Boy Scout troop from Columbus caving in Sullivan Cave.

Lawrence and Monroe County Director Dick reported mapping a 48’ pit inside a cave in Lawrence.

Clark and Scott County Director Dunlap reported no new activity.

Dunlap processed the following ICS Report Forms; Crawford – 2 updates, Harrison – 9 updates – 1 new, Lawrence – 2 new, Floyd – 1 new, Orange – 1 new, Washington – 2 updates and 51 new (from Henderson Park/TNC inventory project Dunlap, Sheldon, Trotter and Walker have contributed to).  He processed 89 forms this quarter.

Crawford, Floyd, and Harrison County Director Black reported that John Benton and Chris Bell continue submissions.

Webmaster Report:

Dick continues with normal updates but had some computer problems as of late.

Private Site Webmaster / Database Custodian Report:

Dunlap continues to process forms for County Directors and in his words has made only minor progress on the reference migration project.

ICS Notebook Report:

The Notebook will be published and delivered when the president’s column is finished. Notebook editor Ty Spatta continues to compile articles and is requesting members to submit maps and articles for future editions. Dunlap continues to assist with the delivery and is accepting $20.00 donations for the printing of color covers.

Old Business:

Florea is working with Wyatt Williams on a DNR and IGWS Cave Survey Workshop scheduled for May 4th and 5th, 2019. The workshop will teach cave-surveying basics at McCormick Creek State Park. ICS participation is needed to assist with the instruction. Watch for further details in the near future,

New Business:

2019 ICS Symposium discussion:

April 27, 2019 at the Orange County Community Center – Dinner at 5:00PM – Programs start at 6:30PM – ICS 50% share is $150.00.

Dick noted that Chuck Sutherland has finished the Karst Density Map – Check it out on the ICS Website

The Wyandotte Map has been revised to include all helpers

Next Meeting:

Dick will host the next meeting at 7:30 PM on June 10th, 2019 at the Dick cabin north of Nashville. Bring something to eat and drink if you so desire.
