Indiana Cave Survey September 9, 2019 Meeting Minutes

President Chris Dick called the meeting to order at 7:47 PM.

Those in attendance included; Chris Dick (President), John Benton (Vice President), Keith Dunlap (Treasurer), Ray Sheldon (Secretary), Brian Cross (Board Member), Bruce Trotter (Board Member), Dave Black, Kevin Strunk, Lee Florea, Sarah Burgess, and Trent Gaines.

The June 2019 meeting minutes were approved.

Treasurer Report:

Dunlap reported $5857.69 in the treasury. Membership stands at 70.

County Director Reports:

Brown, Shelby, Franklin, Decatur County Director Cross reported no activity.

Bartholomew, Jackson, Jefferson, and Ripley County Director Sheldon reported an inquiry in Ripley with no other activity.

Jennings County Director Trotter welcomed the IKC purchase of Lowery Karst Preserve. Additional information is on the IKC Website.

Lawrence and Monroe County Director Dick reported no new activity.

Clark and Scott County Director Dunlap reported no activity.

Dunlap processed the following ICS Report Forms; Harrison – 1, Lawrence – 5, Monroe – 3, Orange – 1, Owen – 1 and Washington – 11. He passed on that Northern Counties Director Jerry Lewis has no new activity

Crawford, Floyd, and Harrison County Director Black appreciates Dunlap’s assistance with Report Forms being processed.

Archivist Report: Dunlap reports placing copies in folders but overall less activity.

Public Webmaster Report:

No new updates in the past quarter.

Private Site Webmaster / Database Custodian Report:

Dunlap continues to process forms for County Directors. Davies County is now in the Database. Carol Ritter provided scans of several topo maps, which Dunlap then generated the report forms from Ritter’s “dots”. The reference migration project stands at 7400 referenced and 48% converted. Washington County migration is now completed and working on Crawford, Harrison, Lawrence, Monroe, and Orange still to do.

ICS Notebook Report:

Notebook editor Ty Spatta needs members to submit maps and articles for future editions. Dunlap continues to assist with the delivery and is accepting $20.00 donations for the printing of color covers.

Old Business:

Florea began discussion concerning the Indiana Geological and Water Survey and Indiana Cave Survey Memorandum of Understanding. Basically an outdated agreement originally signed in 2000. Discussion continued with some wording revisions to the proposed draft accepted. A motion was made by Dunlap to move forward with the MOU noting the changes discussed. Trotter seconded. The Board members voted unanimously to accept the MOU.

New Business:

Dunlap will be opening a Paypal account for ICS related payments. A more convenient way to pay dues and make donations.

Members from the Central Indiana Grotto working for cave access on DNR Division of Forestry properties is making some progress with the permitting process. A strategy plan is forthcoming.

Next Meeting:

ICS member Bill Baus will host the next meeting at 7:30 PM on December 9th, 2019 at Baus Haus in Bloomington.

Meeting adjourned sometime around 9:45 PM.
