Singing Rock 316 SS Hangers

I think my favorite budget-friendly 316 hangers are from Singing Rock. Easily fits two carabiners, and the bolt hole has ample room for a ratcheting wrench. Through ExpertVoice those hangers are $2.19 each. These โ€œpro dealโ€ sites always hit you with hefty shipping costs, so they’re probably more like $3.00 each shipped. They are rarely in-stock, and stock is minimal on a good day, so grab some if you see them. It is a deluxe hanger for that price.

HowNot2: Lappas Alpine vs. CT Tsunami

My other feedback is on two 316 hangers I’ve tried from HowNot2, pictured below. The Lappas Alpine are much better than the Tsunamis. My main gripe with the Tsunamis is not enough clearance for a ratcheting wrench.

With a HowNot2 โ€œBolting+โ€ Membership ($99 / year), you get bolting hardware at cost (20% off). The break-even point for the Bolting+ membership is around $500.00.

Membership pricing: Lappas Alpines $3.46 each and CT Tsunamis $3.44 each

Bolts: CT 316 SS Wedge Bolts, 10mm

And since you asked for my unsolicited opinions on bolts, I’ve been happy with the 316 CT wedge bolts from HowNot2, if you are willing to foul your gear bag with METRIC bolts, bits, and wrenches. I’ve happily converted to 10mm bit and bolts, all clearly labeled โ€œ10mmโ€. Bill loves it when 3/8โ€ณ bolts get mixed together with the 10mm bolts. (Bill adds: This error is fatiguing and thus dangerous when discovered on the wall.)

CT 316 SS wedge bolts 10mm x 90mm โ€” $2.84 each with membership. In Freedom Units, these are about 3.5โ€ณ long.

Raumer Hangers โ€” Worth a Look

I see two additional hangers made by Raumer (or Vertical Evolutions?) on HowNot2 that may be contenders for good cave hangers. I don’t think I’ve seen these before. Raumer Anchor Plate 10mm for $2.35 and the Raumer Rock Plate 10mm for $3.39, but they look good.

CT Tsunami & 10mm Removable Bolts

I would add that the Climbing Taiwan Tsunami hanger is excellent for use with a 10mm removable bolt, due to the off-center nature of the bolt hole. I have only used the Tsunami hangers when using a 10mm removable bolt that was briefly offered by Climbing Taiwan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfXOCWNF2bM.

That specific 10mm removable bolt was removed from the market (perhaps due to its similarities to the Petzl Pulse). Petzl Pulses are either 8mm or 12mm, and come with a hanger. So, until we see a new 10mm or 3/8โ€ณ removable anchor hit the market, the Tsunami is a solution to a non-existent problem. Despite that, I think the unique design of the Tsunami might fit someone’s use case besides the half-dozen other people who own 10mm removable bolts.

The now-extinct 10mm Climbing Taiwan removable bolts, set up with a Singing Rock 316 Hanger (left) and CT Tsunami Hanger (right):
