Welcome to RASS!

The Richmond Area Speleological Society is a caving grotto based in Richmond, Virginia, though we draw our membership from all over Central Virginia. Come join us to talk about upcoming events, recent trips and trip reports, and other caving stuff. We meet on the first Thursday of every month at the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries' office located at 7870 Villa Park Dr, Richmond, VA 23228, from 7:00 PM to approximately 9:00 PM.

News and Announcements!

Be advised that we have a new property owner in the direction of the swimming hole. We have not yet established relations to determine whether or not we will be granted continued access to the swimming hole. At this time of transition if we are seen over there uninvited it could likely harm our future relations. Sadly, until such time, the swimming hole is closed. Furthermore, we will soon be locking the gate to the swimming hole as well as the gate at the top of the driveway which is the actual beginning of our property. Hopefully soon we will resolve this situation but until then we need to respect and honor our property line.

> SPECIAL NOTICE: Due to the current health crisis, all RASS meetings and events have been cancelled.

> The Richmond Area Speleological Society, RASS, supports cave conservation and education about caves and cave resources through awarding grants. We continue to seek worthwhile causes to support. If you have a project which furthers the goals of cave conservation and karst education, please email us at

> If your Grotto or Region is looking for new caves to explore in the Virginia area, RASS can offer your group a place to camp in Bath County, VA. There are more than 100 caves within an hour drive. We support cave conservation and education. Email Jason Hart at for additional information.
