Founded in 1941, the NSS is the largest membership organization dedicated to caves & caving. Composed of over 8,000 members and 250+ local chapters - known as grottos - we connect cavers so they can explore, study and conserve caves worldwide.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
The National Speleological Society is looking for its next Executive Director to help lead the organization into its next chapter. The Executive Director will lead the Society’s day-to-day operations and work closely with the Board of Governors, staff, division heads, volunteers, and members to strengthen the organization and advance its mission. This role calls for a collaborative and strategic leader who can work effectively across a diverse, volunteer-driven organization — while helping build the systems and resources needed for its continued success.
GENERAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The key priorities for the Executive Director will be to: - Strengthen organizational systems and capacity to support the Society’s long-term effectiveness and sustainability - Foster productive collaboration among the Board, Staff, Division Heads, Committees, and NSS membership - Strengthen membership engagement, retention, and growth - Expand and diversify fundraising, partnerships, and other sources of financial support - Ensure that NSS programs, properties, and operations effectively advance the Society’s mission and strategic priorities
