What the committee does:
The NSS Code of Conduct Team is responsible for reviewing code of conduct incident submissions as well as educating the organization about the NSS' Code of Conduct.

The National Speleological Society (NSS) is dedicated to the exploration, study, and protection of caves and their environments. The primary purpose of the NSS’s Code of Conduct policy is to support a welcoming and positive environment for everyone. The policy outlines how unacceptable behavior undermines trust, safety, and inclusivity within the NSS community. The NSS, in its sole discretion, will evaluate violations of the Code of Conduct policy to uphold its ability to protect members pursuing the Society’s mission.
The NSS Code of Conduct Team supports this primarily through two OBJECTIVES:
- Reviewing Code of Conduct Incident Submissions received through conduct.caves.org fairly and consistently and making recommendations for NSS action.
- Educating NSS Internal Organizations and members about the Code of Conduct process.
The following FAQs will provide information about the NSS Code of Conduct process. A glossary of terms is available in each one:
Grottos often need to handle code of conduct incidents at the local level. Because of this, Grottos are required to maintain their own Codes of Conduct, or to adopt the NSS Code of Conduct at the local level. If Grotto leadership has any questions they can reach out to the NSS Code of Conduct Team.
