+4,000 feet
Schoharie Cave is a wet, but fun cave with more than 4,000 feet of passage. The initial 2,000 feet of walking passage is primarily a vadose canyon with ceiling heights from 10 to 80 feet. The vadose canyon ends at a sump and the remainder of the cave is accessible only by experienced cave divers. A total of five sumps have been penetrated.
In 1994 Mary and Jennifer Gage donated Schoharie Caverns and the surrounding 13 acres to the NSS which reinforces Schoharie County’s reputation as a central base for caving since the 1950s.
