The Cave Eaters
Won a Video Salon Merit Award at the 2026 NSS Convention in Corydon, Indiana. Produced by Philippe Axell.
The Cave Eaters, directed by Philippe Axell, explores Belgium’s fragile underground heritage. In the limestone belt of the Calestienne, caves face threats from quarrying and blasting, which have already destroyed irreplaceable chambers. Through the work of cavers and divers who penetrate siphons and map multi-level networks, the film reveals pristine gours, living concretions and geological records preserved from contamination. The film pays tribute to the cavers, the first guardians of an underground heritage that has been plundered for too long.
