The biggest challenge in Huautla caving isn’t facing the rigors of the deepest cave in the Americas; it’s on the surface dealing with the ancient beliefs about the caves held by the Mazatec Indians. While annual expeditions happen and teams are long-term camping underground, a concerted community outreach effort is taking place on the surface.
