The Rockcastle Karst Conservancy and Great Saltpetre Cave

Come join us for camping and caving from 8am Friday, July 3rd thru 2pm Sunday, July 5th. GSP is a beautiful 300+ acre preserve with a historic cave on-site, and wild caving options both on and off the property. GSP was the site of the 2001 NSS Convention and hosts Karst‐O‐Rama every year. With options for electric or primitive camping, fire pits, picnic shelter, shower houses (with hot water), and a Green Latrine, the Great Saltpetre Cave Preserve is truly a paradise.

This area offers a plethora of caving opportunities of all shapes and sizes within the surrounding hills making up the heart of Kentucky Cave Country. There are many opportunities for self-guided trips of the local wild caves, with directions to the caves and cave maps provided. Your wild cave trip options cover the spectrum from easy to difficult caves, including horizontal or vertical caving, short caves, long caves, and wet caves, depending on what attendees are looking for.

Not up for caving before the Convention? Enjoy the relaxed ambiance on the Preserve by checking out the hiking trail, creek, and shady spots just begging for a hammock. Or, take advantage of one of our guided tours of the historic Great Saltpetre Cave, a tour cave most folks are able to navigate without much trouble.

Camping at GSP is $10.00 per night, per person. Electric sites are also available for an additional fee of $10.00 per night, per site. There are only 13 electric sites, and they can be reserved via pre-registration, first-come, first-served.

We hope to see you there!
